Custer Memorial Site marks the 1839 birthplace of General George Armstrong Custer. The Boy General, so nicknamed upon his appointment to Brigadier General of the Michigan Cavalry at age twenty-three, is remembered with a statue and an interpretive exhibit. Perhaps the most controversial figure in American military history, Custer is best known for his infamous Last Stand in 1876, during which he and his entire command, the 7th Cavalry, were annihilated by a unified Sioux force at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Late in 1992 a group of dedicated motorcyclists conceived the idea of a monument for lost bikers. This dream slowly grew into reality with the formation of the 'Motorcyclist Memorial Foundation' formed on December 16, 1993. This foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the permanent memory of brothers and sisters lost.

The foundation members are charged with the care, upkeep, improvements and expansion of the Memorial site, and to annually sponsor a college scholarship flind to benefit students who wish to further their education.

The 'Motorcyclist Memorial' is located on a grassy knoll near Hopedale, Ohio on a site provided by the Hopedale, Ohio American Legion.

Visitors are welcome seven days a week throughout the year. Please plan to visit this sacred area and take a moment to remember those that we have lost.
